In 2016, Timmie Ray Thames, a retired community bank president, began to have thoughts of building a cross along I-20 laid upon his heart. Over the next tow years, the Holy Spirit continued to reaffirm his thoughts through several coincidences that the Lord did indeed want HIS Cross built. After a confirmation from the Lord as to what type of Cross he desired, a search was made for a suitable location. After much frustration and disappointment, Citizens Progressive Bank stepped forward and generously donated a tract of land at the I-20 Eastbound Rayville exit. It was again another reaffirmation of God's Hand moving in to provide the right location in His time! It is now time to start the building process which is anticipated to cost approximately $200,000.
Work has now begun on the construction of the 110 foot Salvation's Cross. Plans also include a sitting area with benches for people to stop, reflect and pray. The Cross, with lighting will be visible 24-hours a day. There is no other large Cross along the I-20 corridor which stretches 1535 miles from South Carolina to south Texas!
"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me" John 12:32
Through monetary gifts and by working together, we as Christian believers have the opportunity to lift up the Cross in this area to remind other of Jesus' words, His sacrifice, and the glorious hope that is in Him alone!
